Simpson men set two meet records at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa - The Simpson College men's track and field team set two meet records en route to a successful showing at the Grinnell Invitational on Saturday.

Max Cleveland did what he does best, winning the men's 60 meter hurdles in a time of 8.08 to set a new meet record. Cleveland was then joined by teammates by Joseph Sams, Brenden Godbout, and Blake DePhillips to set a new meet record and win in the 4x400 meter relay, clocking a time of 3:22.84, the 10th-best mark in school history.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • In addition to his two meet records, Cleveland also finished second in the high jump, tying his career-best with a mark of 1.88 meters.
  • The 4x400 relay time of 3:22.84 is currently 15th in the country entering tonight.
  • Sams finished third in the 60 meters with a time of 7.01, a career-best time that puts him in joint eighth position in school history.
  • Kendrick Achebe was right behind Sams in a time of 7.04, good for 10th in school history.
  • James Murray clocked a time of 8:39.26 in the 3,000 meters to finish second, with the time putting him in fifth place in school history.
