Storm men enter national top 25

NEW ORLEANS - The Simpson College men's track and field team came in at No. 22 in the USTFCCCA National Rankings, released on Tuesday.

The Storm are making its first appearance in the national rankings this outdoor season, after appearing in multiple versions of the national rankings in the indoor season. Simpson, rising nine spots from No. 31 to No. 22, is one of five American Rivers Conference teams in the rankings. The Storm also entered the regional top 10 for the first time this season, moving up two spots from last week to No. 10.

The Storm's full point total of 87.67 are represented by four athletes across five events. Spencer Moon accounts for 57.04 of those points, after his record-breaking performances in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. Moon holds the fastest time in the 5,000 meters in Division III this season, with a school and conference-record time of 13:51.63 that is also the third-fastest in DIII history. Moon is also fifth in the country in the 10,000 meters, with a time of 29:18.21, also a school and conference record.

Ulysses Patterson won the decathlon at the Augustana Meet of Champions this past weekend with a personal best of 6,513 points. The mark contributed 23.72 points to the Storm's total, ranking Patterson fifth in DIII this season, as well as placing him in fifth all-time in school history.

Max Cleveland and Brendan Godbout also contributed a combined 6.91 points in two hurdle events. Cleveland's personal best of 14.42 in the 110 meter hurdles places him 15th in the country, while Godbout's time of 54.85 in the 400 meter hurdles ranks him inside the top 50.

The Storm open competition tomorrow at the team's home meet, the Kip Janvrin Open. Moon will compete at the Drake Relays in the 1,500 meters tomorrow afternoon.
