Storm trio earn all-region accolades

NEW ORLEANS - Three members of the Simpson College men's track and field team were tabbed as USTFCCCA All-Region honorees.

Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned all-region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay team.

Spencer Moon, Max Cleveland, and Ulysses Patterson all earned the distinction, with the team checking in at ninth in the final edition of the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, collecting 277.89 points.

Moon is ranked first in the region in the 5,000 meters with a time of 13:51.63 and is second in the 10,000 meters in a time of 29:18.21. Both times are school and conference records and also rank in the top five nationally. Moon now has 16 career all-region honors in track and field, adding on to his illustrious Storm career.

Cleveland is ranked fourth in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.32, just .02 seconds off the school record. The local Indianola product is earning his fifth career all-region honor and is gunning for his second straight All-American honor in the event.

Patterson checks in at third in the region in the decathlon, collecting his third career all-region accolade. His score of 6,664 points is also fourth all-time in school history and earned him a second-place finish at the conference championships.

Patterson and Moon will compete on day one of the NCAA Championships on Thursday, while Cleveland is scheduled to race on Friday afternoon.
