Three Storm athletes revealed as NCAA Qualifiers

INDIANAPOLIS - Three athletes from the Simpson College men's track and field team were announced as qualifiers to next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Spencer Moon, Ulysses Patterson, and Max Cleveland will represent the Storm in four different events in the Palmetto State.

"We are thrilled to be represented in a variety of events at this year's national meet," said Storm director of cross country and track and field Heath Moenck. "For all of our athletes, this represents a lot of hard work and determination over the course of their seasons and careers. It's always a good thing to have the Simpson uniform at the national meet."

Moon will compete in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters, searching for his first career outdoor track and field All-American honor. The Lake City, Iowa native is currently ranked second in the 5,000 meters and fifth in the 10,000 meters. Moon already has three previous All-American honors under his belt, with two coming this past winter at the indoor national championships and the other at the 2022 national cross country championships. Spanning cross country and track and field, Moon will be competing at his tenth consecutive national meet.

Max Cleveland is searching for his second straight outdoor All-American award in the 110 meter hurdles, after finishing seventh in the event at last year's championships. Cleveland's personal-best time of 14.32 is just .02 seconds off the school record and places him in a tie for 20th in the country.

Ulysses Patterson is also competing at his third national meet and will contest the decathlon. Patterson's score of 6,664 points earned him second place at the conference championships and ranks him eighth across all Division III competitors this season.
