Moon earns fourth weekly track and field honor
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - After breaking his own school record and the conference record in the 10,000 meters, Spencer Moon of the Simpson College men's track and field team earned his fourth Male Track Athlete of the Week and Male Overall Athlete of the Week honors of the season.
In addition to his two weekly honors in cross country, Moon has captured six weekly honors throughout his star-studded senior season. His outdoor campaign opened in style in the 10,000 meters at the Washington University Distance Carnival, running a time of 29:18.21 to lower his own school record, as well as break the conference record set last year.
"Spencer looked terrific in his season-opening race," said Storm director of track and field and cross country Heath Moenck. "It is great to punch your ticket to nationals on your first try at an event. He's got more big races ahead of him and we are excited to watch and cheer him on."
Moon finished second in the race out of 141 total runners. His time is currently ranked third among all DIII competitors this season and also ranks 18th all-time.
The Storm return to action on Friday for the Wartburg Select in Waverly, Iowa.
