Moon shatters 3,000 meter school and conference records

AMES, Iowa - Spencer Moon of the Simpson men's track and field team lowered his own school record in the 3,000 meters while also breaking the conference record at the Iowa State Cyclone Open.

Moon's time of 8:04.91 beat his previous record by over 10 seconds and also lowered the conference record set last year by almost nine seconds. Additionally, Moon's time is good for sixth all-time in Division III history.

"Spencer adds to his legendary career with an incredible start to his indoor season," said Storm director of cross country and track and field Heath Moenck. "Any time you can shatter a school and conference record you know it was a good one and I am thrilled for him."

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Moon's time was good for fourth place out of 48 runners and also is the country's leading time this year.
  • Ean Warrick also had a successful 3,000 meters, clocking a time of 8:41.13 to move into fifth in school history.
  • Joseph Sams moved into eighth in school history in the 200 meters with a time of 22.73. Sams also tied his career-best in the 60 meters with a time of 7.15.
  • Max Cleveland qualified for the 60 meter hurdle finals with a time of 8.22 and then took third place in the final in a time of 8.07, beating all other conference opponents.
  • James Murray clocked a time of 4:18.04 in the mile, setting a new career-best by over five seconds.
