Storm close season in A-R-C Semifinals

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- For the fourth time in five seasons, the Simpson men's soccer team ends its season in the American Rivers Conference Tournament Semifinals as the third-seeded Storm lost 3-1 at two-seeded Loras Wednesday night to close out the 2019 campaign.

Simpson finishes with a 16-4-2 record and tied the program mark for most wins in a season that the 1999 and 2000 squads set.

The Duhawks (15-5-1) put the Storm in a hole early with two goals in the opening 15 minutes of play and held a 3-0 advantage at the half. Loras scored its game-winner in the ninth minute and added the second in the 14th minute to keep the momentum. The Duhawks capped their scoring in the 42nd minute as they moved to 2-0 over Simpson for the year and outscored them 7-1 in both matches combined.

The Storm landed on the board in the 62nd minute when Jordy Triana-Vasquez connected on his fifth goal of the season as a freshman. Jack Lammers dribbled up the right side of the field and sent a cross in front of the goal for the assist as Triana-Vasquez finished it off.

Loras held a 22-15 shot advantage all evening as 12 of those were on goal. Jake Potratz ended with nine saves in goal for Simpson.

The seniors graduate with 54 career wins and played in three conference tournament semifinal matches during their time on campus and never finished lower than third in the conference standings at the end of a season.
