Triana-Vasquez scores game-winner over Luther

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's soccer team secured its 10th win in a row Saturday night with a 2-1 victory over Luther inside Buxton Stadium in American Rivers Conference competition.

The Storm (13-1, 3-0 A-R-C) broke a string of nine straight matches without a win over the Norse (9-3-1, 2-2 A-R-C). The victory is head coach Rick Isaacson's first against his alma mater during his time at Simpson.

Before the match, the Storm celebrated the careers of their nine seniors, Tanner Alderson, Darius Doswell, Jake Dotterer, Trevor Fuccio, Brendan Owings, Connor Robson, Matt Turnley, Kyler Zielsdorf and Jake Potratz.

Tanner Alderson opened the scoring lid in the 24th minute to give the Storm a quick 1-0 advantage. Connor Robson had a free kick from 50-yards away after a foul and placed the ball in front of the goal to a jumping Alderson, who headed it in.

Jordy Triana-Vasquez netted the game-winner in the 74th minute off a bicycle kick in front of the goal. Justin Gilmour set the play up with a ball into the box and Alderson directed it towards Triana-Vasquez, who finished it off for his second goal this week and third overall.

Luther cut the deficit in half in the 87th minute to make it a one-score match once again and put some pressure on Simpson. The Storm held tough afterwards and did not let the visitors rattle a shot off for the remainder of the contest.

Simpson attempted 16 shots during the contest, while the Norse had 13, of those 16 shots, four were on goal.

Jake Potratz tallied five saves to move to 13-1 for the year while in goal.

• The Storm broke a streak of six-straight matches with at least 20 shot attempts with the 16 tries.
• Jordy-Triana tallied his second game-winner of the season, his first was against Coe on Wednesday.
• Alderson is now tied for first on the team with nine goals.
