Storm draw at home with Concordia-Moorhead

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- For the first time since Oct. 5, 2018, the Simpson men's soccer team finished a match in a tie, this time in a 2-2 draw against Concordia-Moorhead inside Buxton Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The game saw little scoring threats for nearly the whole first half before the Storm (13-1-1) erupted for two goals in less than a minute to go into intermission with a 2-0 advantage.

Danny Haisch played a through ball up the middle of the field allowing Justin Gilmour to sprint past several defenders to retrieve it with a one-verse-one with the Cobbers' (8-3-2) goalkeeper to score his third goal of the year in the 44th minute.

Less than a minute later, Tanner Alderson netted his 10th goal of the season off a pass from Gilmour. Alderson is tied for second in the American Rivers Conference in goals.

Concordia-Moorhead scored both of its goals in less than a minute just like the Storm did to tie the nonconference match. The Cobbers put one into the back of the net in the 84th minute and then followed again in the 85th to force the contest into overtime.

The Storm had chances to take the game throughout the match by placing 10 shots on frame, forcing their opponents to make eight saves. In total, Simpson tallied 25 shots, with 13 coming in the first 45 minutes of action. Darius Doswell paced the offense with seven shots, while Connor Robson and Jordy Triana-Vasquez each had three apiece.

Simon Van Den Abbeele received his first start of the season and now owns a 0-0-1 mark in goal for the Storm.
