Doswell provides boost for Storm in win

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- After more than 50 minutes of scoreless action, Darius Doswell scored the game-winner in the 54th minute to lift the Simpson men's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Buena Vista Tuesday night in chilly and windy conditions.

The Beavers' (1-10-3, 0-4 A-R-C) defense thwarted 16 of the Storm's (14-1-1, 4-0 A-R-C) shots in the first half to keep things in a gridlock, with eight of those on target.

After a pause in action for intermission, Doswell scored both his netters on free kicks for his seventh and eighth goals of the season in the second half. Doswell lined up for the set piece after a handball in the 54th minute and sliced the ball around Buena Vista's wall to score. In the 70th minute, Doswell set up from left side of the pitch and buried the ball into the left side of the net.

To cap off the scoring in the American Rivers Conference showdown, Peter Gaspari earned his second goal of the season in the 81st minute to give Simpson its seventh margin of victory of at least three goals this season.

The Storm had chances to score as 16 of the team's 39 shots were on frame as Doswell tallied five of those near misses.

Simpson's defense let Buena Vista rattle off just two shots during the game, one in each half. Jake Potratz was credited with the win and two saves.

Notes
• Doswell's first goal of the match was his third game-winner of the season, tied for first on the team with Tanner Alderson and Enrique Idehen.
• The Storm sent 17 corner kicks sailing towards the net, their most this season and over the past decade.
