Storm grab 5-0 shutout over St. Scholastica

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After going into halftime with a 1-0 advantage, the Simpson men's soccer team exploded for four goals in the second half to defeat St. Scholastica 5-0 Sunday afternoon.

The Storm (11-1) used goals from five different players to earn the nonconference victory in the program's first meeting against the Saints (3-11). Simpson captured its eighth win in a row.

Alan Imamovic lifted the scoring lid in the 27th minute with his second goal of the year and first game-winner. Imamovic was able to get enough lift on his ball to send it under the crossbar to put the Storm ahead 1-0.

Coming out of intermission, Tanner Alderson earned his eighth goal of the year in the 47th minute. Brendan Owings increased the lead to 3-0 after placing his penalty kick to the right of St. Scholastica's goalie for the score.

Peter Gaspari scored his first career goal in the 67th minute off a pass from Dominek Miyeng and Enrique Idehen. Idehen finished the team's scoring with a missile from 30 yards away, tying Alderson with a team-leading eighth netter for the year. Jake Dotterer set the play up with a pass to Idehen, who then used good footwork to get past a defender to take his shot.

Julius Cooper had an opportunity to add to the scoring in the first half coming off a corner kick. Derrick Beckman placed a corner out in front of the box, allowing Cooper to head the ball near the goal, but a Saints' defender was there to block the effort.

The Storm were on the hunt all afternoon and rattled off 29 shot attempts, while allowing St. Scholastica to get off five.

Jake Potratz earned his 11th victory of the season after grabbing three saves in goal.

Notes
• This is Simpson's seventh shutout this year.
• Alderson has now had a goal in six straight games after not scoring in the previous four matches.
• This is the fifth time this season that Alderson and Idehen have scored a goal in the same contest.
