Storm blank Minn. Morris in scoring spree

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- While most fans were still finding their seats, Simpson's Seth Bowman and Tanner Alderson each scored a goal in the opening three minutes of the men's soccer 5-0 victory over Minnesota Morris on Sunday at Buxton Stadium.

Bowman put his first goal of the season and sixth of his career, into the back of the net with a header off a corner by Baraka Ellie. Just over 40 seconds later, Alderson notched a goal coming off a back-heel pass from Dominek Miyeng. Alderson and Miyeng connected on another goal in the 21st minute, this time coming on a double assist with Miyeng passing it to Danny Haisch first, who set up Alderson in front of the net.

The Storm (2-0-0) went into halftime with a 3-0 advantage and kept the pressure on in the early minutes of the second period. Miyeng placed a header into the back of the net for his second goal of the season, while Bowman earned credit for the assist. Miyeng now paces the team with six points after two contests.

Jack Lammers tallied the team's last goal in the 85th minute to put the contest out of reach for good. Derrick Beckman placed a corner about 15 yards out in front the goal and Lammers sunk the ball by the right post.

The Cougars (0-2-0) felt the attack all game while the Storm connected on 33 shots, while Minn. Morris rattled off just one. Simpson had 14 corner kicks and did not allow the visitors to attempt one.

Jordy Triana-Vasquez was itching for his first goal in uniform for the Storm, but could not find the back of the net with his six shot attempts. The Storm had eight players have two-or-more shot attempts, while three had at least two on-goal.

Jake Potratz moves to 2-0-0 for the year and had a combined shutout with Simon Van Den Abbeele.
