Storm use balanced attack to defeat Nebraska Wesleyan

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson men's soccer team used goals by three different players to win 3-0 over Nebraska Wesleyan Tuesday night to clinch the third seed in this year's American Rivers Conference Tournament.

Jordy Triana-Vasquez waited little time to find the back of the net for the Storm (15-3-2, 5-2-1 A-R-C) in the regular season finale. The freshman scored the game-winner in the ninth minute off a cross from Baraka Ellie. Ellie set the play up by streaking down the right side of the pitch and sent a low-flying ball in front of the goal past a defender, allowing Triana-Vasquez to set his feet and score.

Ellie assisted on Simpson's second goal of the night, this time sending a pass to Ian Dean. Dean's 60th minute goal put the Storm up 2-0 over the Prairie Wolves (7-8-3, 1-6-1).

Simpson capped off the scoring in the 79th minute as Peter Gaspari sent a free kick in front of the goal, allowing Mason Madren to score his first goal of the season and give Gaspari his first helper of his career.

The Storm held the shot advantage all night with 17 attempts, while holding Nebraska Wesleyan to seven, with two coming in the second half.

Darius Doswell and Enrique Idehen were active in the attack by combining for seven shots with six coming on target as the team ended with 11 shots on frame.

Jake Potratz finished with four saves for his eighth shutout of the year.

• As a unit, Simpson has 10 shutouts this season and started the year with five blank sheets in its first six matches.
