Alderson’s golden goal lifts Storm over Wartburg

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After 100 minutes of action, Tanner Alderson connected on a golden goal to lift Simpson men's soccer to a 1-0 victory over Wartburg on Saturday in Buxton Stadium for its first American Rivers Conference win this season.

Darius Doswell sent a rocket into the box and Alderson used his head to push the ball into the back of the net for his sixth goal of the season just seconds into the second overtime.

The Storm (9-1-0, 1-0-0 American Rivers) were on the hunt all night and took 21 shots, while allowing the Knights (3-2-2, 0-1-0) to four attempts. Wartburg's goalie was a wall and stopped 10 shots to push the game into two overtimes.

The offense created a lot of chances during the rain-filled match with 12 corner kicks, while the visitors did not attempt a single one.

Simpson's defense allowed just one ball to get close to the goal as Jake Potratz had just one save in the contest, which has been a theme all season. Potratz now has four games with just one save this year.

Notes
• Alderson is tied for first on the team with six goals and now has 36 for his career.
• Doswell tallied his first assist of the year and now is third on the team with 11 points.
• This is the third time in the past four seasons both teams have gone into overtime, with this being the second double overtime contest in that span.
• The team now has six shutouts this season, just one shy of tying the mark from a year ago.
