Idehen nets two goals in win over Cornell

MT. VERNON, Iowa -- Enrique Idehen scored two goals to help the Simpson men's soccer team grab a 3-1 victory on the road at Cornell on Thursday.

The Storm (6-1-0) outshot the Rams (1-4-1) 16-3 and split the shots up evenly per half during the match. Simpson placed eight on target to force Cornell to make five saves.

Idehen broke the scoring open in the 11th minute off a pass from Baraka Ellie, giving Ellie his conference-leading fifth assist of the season.

Just after intermission, Tanner Alderson tallied the game-winning goal in the 47th minute for his third score of the year.

The Rams broke into the scoring column in the 58th minute to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

Simpson tallied its third goal in the 85th minute on Idehen's third netter of the year to make it 3-1 and give the team some cushion as the final minutes ticked off the clock.

Jake Potratz moved to 5-1-0 for the year with one save tonight with the help of his defense only allowing two shots on goal.

• Idehen is in a three-way tie for first place in goals on the team at three. He is joined by Darius Doswell and Alderson.
• The Storm had five different players attempt a shot in the contest, while Alderson led the way with five.
