Truman grabs all-region first team nod

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- After two straight second-team nominations since the end of the 2019 season, Truman Schmitt was finally placed on a first team, this time by the American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings in the Central Region.

The designated hitter was previously named D3Baseball.com All-Region Second Team and American Rivers All-Conference Second Team for his breakout junior season. Schmitt joins Austin Burlin as the only Simpson players to be selected to both all-region squads by the ABCA and D3Baseball.com.

Schmitt batted .390 for the year with 53 hits, 14 doubles, five home runs, three triples and 25 RBI. His slugging percentage of .647 paced the conference, while his batting average, doubles and homers were tied for first in the A-R-C. Schmitt tallied 88 total bases to tie for second in the league.

2019 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-Region Teams

The teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the process is led by the ABCA NCAA Div. III All-America Committee.

The ABCA All-America team was first recognized in 1949 and now includes nine divisions: NCAA Divisions I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA Divisions I, II and III, Pacific Association Division, and high school. ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove teams were first recognized in 2007.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 11,000 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries. Since its initial meeting of 27 college baseball coaches in June 1945, Association membership has broadened to include eight divisions: NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, NJCAA, Pacific Association Division, High School and Youth. The 76th annual ABCA Convention will be held Jan. 2-5, 2020 in Nashville, Tenn.
