Schmitt receives All-Region accolade

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- Truman Schmitt tallied his second postseason honor for the Storm baseball squad this year, this time being named a D3Baseball.com All-Central Region Second Team performer as a designated hitter.

A week after being selected to the American Rivers All-Conference Second Team, Schmitt is the first Simpson baseball player to make an all-region team since 2016, when Austin Burlin was tabbed to the third team.

The Hinton, Iowa native batted .390 for the year with 53 hits, 14 doubles, five home runs, three triples and 25 RBI. His slugging percentage of .647 paced the conference, while his batting average, doubles and homers were tied for first in the A-R-C. Schmitt tallied 88 total bases to tie for second in the league.

The junior improved his batting average by 196 points from a year ago in which he batted .254 as a sophomore. He had more hits than his first two seasons combined with 45.

Schmitt was awarded A-R-C Position Player of the Week honors twice this year and had the distinction of Male Athlete of the Week added to one of those accolades as well.
