Storm unable to slow Wartburg offense

WAVERLY, Iowa -- In the last regular season series away from home, the Simpson baseball team lost 5-0 at Wartburg on Friday.

In the low-hitting contest, the Storm (12-19, 4-15 A-R-C) were out-hit 6-5 in the series opener. The Knights (9-23, 6-13 A-R-C) were able to push two runs across in both the third and fourth innings to take a quick 4-0 advantage.

Wartburg tacked on another in the seventh to stretch the lead to 5-0, where it stayed the rest of the way.

Devin Creger and Truman Schmitt both had doubles to lead the offensive charge for the Storm. Schmitt's came in the opening frame, but could not score and Creger's came in the third with one out, but could not score as well.

Brady Leonard starting on the hill for Simpson and went 3.2 innings to move to 0-5 for the year. Cameron Liston came in relief and gave up two hits in three innings of work and Dunston Werner went 1.1 innings of no-hit ball.

Simpson and Wartburg will wrap up the season series with a doubleheader on Sunday at 1 p.m.
