LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Simpson baseball team remain above .500 in American Rivers Conference play after going splitting its doubleheader at Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday. The Storm lost 7-3 in the opener and revenged the loss with a 14-2 blowout triumph in the finale.
Simpson is now 11-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Prairie Wolves are 4-16 and 2-6 in league competition.
Nebraska Wesleyan 7, Simpson 3
The hosts jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first and pushed two more across in the fourth inning to take a commanding 4-0 advantage.
The Storm tallied a run in the sixth coming off the bat of Brandon Urias, who drove in Kolton Arnold on a sacrifice fly.
Nebraska Wesleyan added three more in the seventh. Simpson scored two in the eighth to chip away at the deficit. Urias recorded another RBI with a single. Joshua Henriksen would then score on a wild pitch.
Arnold finished with three hits, including a double and Truman Schmitt remained hot with two base knocks.
Simpson 14, Nebraska Wesleyan 2
The Storm were impatient in the second game and scored three runs in the opening frame and tacked on four more in the second, while scoring in all seven innings of the contest. Urias repeated his first-game performance and drove in two runs coming on a double in the first. Devin Creger would then drive him in with a single.
In the second, Arnold drove in Nathan Carlin and Josh Breitbarth had a double that plated two runners. Urias would reach on an error in the inning that scored another.
Schmitt smoked his second three-bagger of the day, which scored Arnold in the top of the seventh to provide the exclamation point.
Simpson had eight of its nine hitters receive a hit, Schmitt and Creger garnering two each. Breitbarth and Urias each finished with three RBIs.
Brady Held tossed a complete-game five hitter and allowed two runs. He struck out eight batters in the shortened game.

The Storm return to action on Thursday as the team visits Dubuque for a 3 p.m. showdown. The teams will wrap-up the series with a doubleheader on Saturday.
