MANKATO, Minn. -- Truman Schmitt ripped a solo home run and drove in three runs to help the Simpson baseball team complete the comeback to win 7-6 over Bethany Lutheran on Saturday. The Vikings split the doubleheader with a 15-11 triumph in the finale.
The Storm sit at 10-5 overall now after scoring 18 runs on the day.
Simpson 7, Bethany Lutheran 6
Schmitt broke open the scoring in the top of the first with his solo bomb, his fourth of the year.
Bethany Lutheran plated four in the bottom of the second to spring to the early advantage.
Brandon Urias halted the momentum with a two-run double in the fourth and brought the game to within one at 4-3. After the Vikings added two more in the fifth, the Storm tallied three runs in the seventh to tie the game at 6-6. Schmitt added two more RBIs to his line with a double after a sacrifice bunt from Richie Hintz scored Urias on an error.
In the eighth, Tyrese Moore had an RBI single to help the squad regain the lead. Brett Kauzlarich tossed the last two innings for Simpson and held on to capture his first save of the season. Jonathan Sailstad was tabbed with the victory.
Bethany Lutheran 15, Simpson 11
The offense remained hot for the Storm in game two and put up 11 runs over the course of the first three innings of play. Keegan Perez had three RBIs, Schmitt had another and the team racked up 10 hits during that stretch.
Bethany Lutheran held tight and did not let Simpson score another run for the rest of the game and only gave up three more hits.
The Vikings produced a run in the fourth, five more in the fifth, four in the seventh and five in the eighth to get revenge from the first game loss.
Schmitt and Perez both finished with three hits, and Brady Held and Devin Creger chipped in two apiece.
The team's 13 hits are the most in a loss this season for Simpson.

The Storm remain away from Indianola and play at Nebraska Wesleyan on Tuesday for an American Rivers Conference battle. The first game will begin at 1 p.m.
