Storm rise two spots in latest national poll

NEW ORLEANS - The Simpson College men's track and field team rose two spots to 18th in the latest edition of the USTFCCCA National Rankings.

The team's ranking is the highest national ranking since the 2017-18 season. In addition to the movement in the national rankings, the Storm cracked the top 10 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings for the first time this season.

The Storm collected 42.28 points in the national poll based on four performances. Seniors Spencer Moon (19.82) and Max Cleveland (15.98) accounted for 35.80 of these points after their school record-breaking performances earlier this season. Moon's time of 8:04.91 in the 3,000 meters is ranked second in Division III, while Cleveland is ranked fourth in the country in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 8.00.

Ulysses Patterson earned a further 5.46 points for the Storm, after breaking the school record in the heptathlon. Patterson's mark of 4,835 points is currently ranked 11th in the country.

The Storm 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Cleveland, Joseph Sams, Brenden Godbout, and Blake DePhillips also contributed points for the Storm's national ranking. The quartet broke the meet record at Grinnell this past weekend in a time of 3:22.84 (3:19.66 converted), currently placing the team 15th in the country.

The Storm will head to Wartburg on Saturday morning for the Wartburg select.
