Hoffman returns to Simpson as associate head track and field coach

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Heath Moenck, Simpson College director of track and field and cross country, announced the hiring of James Hoffman '06 as associate head track and field coach.

Hoffman is no stranger to the Storm community, spending 16 years at Simpson serving on the football staff and seven years as an assistant track coach focusing on sprints.

"We are so excited to welcome James back to the Storm track and field programs," said Moenck. "James is a proud Simpson alum and we are looking forward to the experience he brings."

During his seven-year tenure working with the track and field programs at Simpson, Hoffman assisted in the coaching of four All-American awards from five different athletes. Hoffman helped lead his athletes to 77 all-conference awards, 30 conference titles, and five school records. Under his guidance, Simpson sprinters were represented at the national meet 19 times.

"James has extensive experience working with former Simpson All-Americans and is a dedicated recruiter," continued Moenck. "His background and previous success with Simpson athletes will make him a great asset to our program."

Hoffman grew up in the Des Moines area, attending Roosevelt High School as a member of the football and track and field teams. Hoffman was a three-time track conference champion and was a member of the 1999 team that claimed a state title. Hoffman also spent 11 years (2002-13) at his alma mater as an assistant sprints and jumps coach for the track and field program.
