Storm men move up two spots in latest national rankings

NEW ORLEANS - The Simpson College men's track and field team moved up two spots in the latest edition of the USTFCCCA National Rankings.

The Storm checked in at 20th, rising two spots from last week's rankings. The Storm have appeared in all four national ranking releases in the indoor track season.

Simpson also cracked back into the top 10 in the USTFCCCA Midwest Regional Rankings, rising three spots to go from 11th to eighth, the team's highest spot in the regional rankings this season.

The bulk of the Storm's points in the national rankings came from seniors Spencer Moon and Max Cleveland.

Moon, who was named the conference's male athlete of the week on Monday, earned 19.76 points for the Storm for his performances in the distance events. Cleveland, specializing in the hurdles, earned 15.73 points for the Storm. Both athletes are ranked in the top five in the country across three events, Moon in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters, and Cleveland in the 60 meter hurdles.

Ulysses Patterson also contributed points towards the Storm total, with his school record 4,835 points in the heptathlon ranking him 16th in the country.

The Storm have two meets lined up for this weekend, beginning with the Eagle Open at Wis.-La Crosse on Friday. The team then heads to Waverly for the Liz Wuertz Invite on Saturday.
