Patterson sets new school record in heptathlon

PELLA, Iowa - Ulysses Patterson of the Simpson men's track and field team set a new school record over the two-day heptathlon at the Dutch Winter Multi on Thursday and Friday afternoons.

Patterson scored 4,835 points to break the previous school record (4,745 points) held by Isaac Frazier since 2017. The senior standout also won the overall event and finished first in the long jump with a mark of 6.69 meters.

"Ulysses had a great opening mark for his season, performing at or around a personal best in each event," said Storm associate head coach James Hoffman. "We look forward to continuing to fine tune each event over the next month in hopes of an even greater performance and hopefully at nationals."

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Patterson's record mark currently puts him seventh in the country.
  • With a time of 7.28 in the 60 meter dash, Patterson set a career-best in the event.
  • Patterson also set a career-best in the shot put with a toss of 11.89 meters.
  • He took first in the long jump, with a mark of 6.69 meters.
  • Patterson finished in the top four out of 10 athletes in six of the seven events.
