Patterson’s decathlon leads Storm across multiple meets

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Ulysses Patterson of the Simpson College men's track and field team won the decathlon at the Augustana Meet of Champions, leading the Storm across four separate meets over the weekend.

Patterson scored 6,513 points, a new personal best that puts him fifth in the country. The Clinton, Iowa native also moves into fifth all-time in school history, setting personal bests in or winning five individual events.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Patterson set new outdoor career bests in the long jump (6.79 meters), the 100 meters (11.11), the 110 meter hurdles (15.90) and the 1,500 meters (4:45.45).
  • Patterson also won the 400 meters in a time of 50.32, just .04 seconds away from his personal best as well.
  • In Iowa City at the Musco Twilight, Max Cleveland continued his experiment at competing in both the 110 and 400 meter hurdles. The senior won the longer version in a time of 55.82, placing second in the 110 meter discipline with a time of 14.69.
  • At La Crosse, Wis. in the Phil Esten Challenge, Marc Medici and Jack Gatti moved into the top 10 in school history in the 10,000 meters. Medici is now ninth with a time of 31:31.02, with Gatti right behind in 10th, clocking a time of 31:33.04.
  • Over in Grinnell at the Dick Young Invitational, Trent Pelzer broke the two-minute barrier in the 800 meters with a career-best time of 1:59.49 to win the race.
  • Simpson claimed the top five spots in the 3,000, led by Noah Smith taking first with a time of 9:27.36.
  • Troy Galloway won the gold in the javelin with a toss of 44.86 meters.

UP NEXT
The Storm will host the Kip Janvrin Open on Thursday, with an additional few athletes currently scheduled to compete at the Drake Relays.
