Storm bows out in first round of IIAC Tourney

DUBUQUE - Four different players netted goals, Dubuque outshot Simpson 22-6 and advanced to the second round of the Iowa Conference Women's Soccer Tournament with a 4-0 win Tuesday night.

The third-seeded Spartans (11-7-2) will face second-seeded Wartburg on Friday.

With the loss, Simpson's season comes to a close. The Storm (7-11-1) put three shots on goal in the contest, two of which came from Susan Leslie. The Dubuque defense shut down Simpson's leading goal-scorers, Nicole Dillenburg and Katherine Bird. Dillenburg managed two shots while Bird didn't get a look.

Sara Fassbinder scored a goal and assisted on another for Dubuque, netting the second goal of the contest in the 37th minute. Ashley Barwick got the scoring started with her goal in the 30th minute off a corner kick from Chelsea Kittleson.

Alexandra Watkins scored the third goal of the game and Katrina Caserez closed out the scoring in the 76th minute.

Jessica Toyne made a pair of saves in goal for the Storm, allowing three. Megan Petersen played the final 19 minutes, allowing one goal.
