Storm cruise to 5-0 win against UM-Morris

ST. PAUL - Katherine Bird (Iowa City, Iowa) connected on two goals and Simpson beat Minnesota-Morris 5-0 on Sunday at the St. Catherine Wildcat Invitational.

The Storm (2-3) scored four goals in the second half and attempted a season-high 25 shots to UM-Morris' nine. Goalkeeper Megan Petersen (Indianola, Iowa) made six saves in her first shutout of the season.

Megan Ginsberg (Iowa City, Iowa) got Simpson on the board in the 27th minute, scoring off a corner kick. Simpson took the 1-0 lead into the locker room at halftime and didn't score again until the 64th minute on Bird's first goal of the game.

A little over two minutes after Bird made the score 2-0, Nicole Dillenburg (Urbandale, Iowa) connected on the third goal of the game. Susan Leslie (Long Grove, Iowa) joined in on the scoring in the 71st minute, connecting off a Kasey McCreary (Davenport, Iowa) assist. Bird closed the contest with a goal in the 74th minute.

Simpson returns to action this week in a non-conference matchup with Grand View on Wednesday at Crownie Soccer Complex in Des Moines. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
