'Energetic' Storm shut out Grinnell

INDIANOLA, Iowa - Simpson scored three goals in the first 30 minutes and held Grinnell to no goals on seven shots in a 3-0 win at Buxton Stadium on Friday night.

The Storm (3-4) got goals from Ashlee Krider (Norwalk, Iowa), Nicole Dillenburg (Urbandale, Iowa) and Katherine Bird (Iowa City, Iowa) in the win. Megan Petersen (Indianola, Iowa) earned the shutout between the posts, benefiting from improved play in front of her.

"We played with a lot of energy tonight," head coach Ryan Sander said. "Our back line held its shape really well tonight. I feel like things are starting to click and we're playing as a team."

Krider started the scoring in the third minute, using her first goal of the season to give the Storm a 1-0 lead. Dillenburg made the score 2-0 when she blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the top left net in the 22nd minute.

The Pioneers (1-4) put five shots on goal, getting their most dangerous opportunity in the 60th minute. Becca Carter fired a shot that glanced off the crossbar, but Petersen sercured the ball on the ricochet to preserve the shutout.
