Dubuque tops Simpson, 4-1

INDIANOLA - Alexandra Watkins scored two goals, Chelsea Kittleson had two assists and Dubuque beat Simpson 4-1 Saturday in the Iowa Conference opener for both teams.

The Spartans (5-3-2, 1-0 IIAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half, getting goals from Ashly Hamilton and Sara Fassbinder in the first 35 minutes.

Katherine Bird (Iowa City, Iowa) brought the Storm (3-5-1, 0-1 IIAC) within a goal when she connected on her team-leading fifth goal of the season in the 39th minute. Nicole Dillenburg (Urbandale, Iowa) started the play when she found Bird off a set piece from 20 yards out.

Dubuque controlled the second half, as Watkins connected on both of her goals on breakaways.

Simpson finishes the weekend with a 4 p.m. contest Sunday against Augustana at Buxton Stadium.
