MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – The Simpson women's basketball team faced an early deficit but shook it off en-route to a 72-53 win over Iowa Wesleyan on Wednesday night.
Kate Nielsen scored a game-high 23 points, Whitney VanWyk had seven steals and the Storm (6-0) remained undefeated on the year.
Simpson trailed by seven early in the game but mounted an 18-0 run during a 5 minute, 25 second stretch late in the half to pull away. Simpson led 40-30 at the half and extended its lead to 28 at one point in the second half.
Nicole Crisp added a season-high 16 points, going 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Morgan Mauro finished with 12 points and also went 4-for-6 from 3-point range as Simpson made 14 of 28 as a team. Kelsie Reeves handed out six assists and had five steals.
Danielle Des Jardins led the Tigers (1-7) with 15 points and Mariah Sartorious added eight rebounds.
Simpson hosts Wheaton (Ill.) on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.
