Storm ascend to No. 15 in major polls
INDIANOLA, Iowa - The Sipmson women's basketball team moved up to No. 15 in both the D3hoops.com Top 25 and USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches' polls, which were released earlier this week.
The Storm improved two spots in the D3hoops.com poll and six in the USA TODAY Sports poll after being ranked 17th and 21st, respectively, a week ago.
Simpson received 259 points in the D3hoops.com Top 25 poll, which is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, sports information directors and media members across the country.
Simpson received 85 points in the USA TODAY Sports Top 25 Coaches' Poll, which is voted on by nine head coaches at Division III institutions who are members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The Storm are 8-0 on the season after beating a quality Grand View team on the road last Wednesday. Simpson forced a season-high 30 turnovers and opened the game up with an 11-0 run to start the second half to beat the Vikings - ranked 13th in NAIA - 67-50 in Des Moines.
Simpson will put its perfect record on the line Saturday when it hosts a two-loss UW-River Falls team which beat the Storm twice in 2011-12. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. and the game will be free to the public.
