Iowa Conference Release

A senior forward from Urbandale, Iowa, Nielsen averaged 26 points and 7.5 rebounds for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 20. The 10th-ranked Storm (now 17-1 overall) remained unbeaten in the conference with wins over Loras and Dubuque last week.

She scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds against the Duhawks for her seventh double-double this season and the 13th of her career. She was 6 of 11 from the field and a perfect 9 of 9 at the charity stripe. Against Dubuque, she scored a game-high 30 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field, reaching the 30-point plateau for the second time in 2012-2013. During the week, she shot 63.6 percent (14 of 22) from the field, including 4 of 6 from 3-point range, and hit 95.2 percent (20-of-21) of her free throws.

Simpson is in the middle of a challenging stretch that includes four games in eight days. The Storm beat Coe 58-56 on Monday followed by a 73-56 win over Central on Wednesday. The week will wrap up with another game against Coe on Saturday in Cedar Rapids.
