Nielsen named IIAC Athlete of the Week
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Simpson women's basketball player Kate Nielsen earned Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week and Basketball Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Nov. 18, the league office announced.
Nielsen, a senior forward from Urbandale, Iowa, averaged 23.5 points and six rebounds per game as the Storm opened the year with a pair of victories and won the Wis.-Eau Claire Tip-Off Tournament.
She had a 28-point, 10 rebound double-double on 10-of-19 shooting with an assist, a block and two steals in a 71-60 season-opening win over Wis.-La Crosse. The 23 points were a career-high. Nielsen scored 19 points on a perfect 9-of-9 shooting from the field as Simpson defeated host Wis.-Eau Claire, 70-52, avenging last year's NCAA Tournament loss at the hands of the Blugolds.
