2012-13 Storm Top 10: No. 1

The No. 1 moment of the 2012-13 season comes as little surprise. The memorable season compiled by the women's basketball team ran away with the voting, as nearly 80 percent of respondents deemed the 27-win campaign worthy of the top spot.

Led by an MVP season from Kate Nielsen, the Simpson women's basketball team won a sixth-straight Iowa Conference Championship and made a ninth-straight appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Storm tied a school record for wins in a season, going 27-3 on the way to an appearance in the Sweet 16. Making the season even sweeter, Simpson earned the right to host the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament, beating Westminster and UW-Stevens Point in front of the home crowd.

Nielsen cemented her legacy as one of the greatest players in Simpson history by being named as 1 of 3 finalists for WBCA Player of the Year, earning West Region and Iowa Conference Most Valuable Player honors, landing a spot on the All-America First Team and taking home First Team Academic All-America honors.
