Reeves, Farrand named Student-Athletes of the Month

Kelsie Reeves helped the women's basketball team to the NCAA Tournament and Joe Farrand earned Most Valuable Track Performer honors at the IIAC Indoor Championships as the duo earned Simpson Student-Athlete of the Month honors for February 2013.

Reeves, a senior from Des Moines, Iowa, was named Second Team All-Iowa Conference for the Storm, who won the league title for a sixth straight season and advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Reeves earned IIAC co-Player of the Week honors for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 24 after scoringa  career-high 24 points in Simpson's win over Dubuque in the IIAC Tournament Championship game. She averaged 11.7 points and 2.31 assists per game during the month.

Farrand, a sophomore from Kansas City, Mo., won the 3,000- and 5,000-meter run at the 2013 Iowa Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships on his way to Most Valuable Track Performer honors. He also earned IIAC Track Performer of the Week honors for his efforts, as he became Simpson's first track & field MVP since 1997. He helped Simpson to a fifth-place finish in the meet and a No. 9 ranking in the region.
