Singles play leads Simpson to 6-3 triumph over Central

PELLA, Iowa -- Singles play highlighted a 6-3 victory for the Simpson College women's tennis squad at Central on Friday.

The Storm (9-5) won all singles matches besides one, with the losing effort going to three sets for a hard-fought loss.

Anna Wanek (No. 1) and Emily King (No. 2) cruised to victories by only losing a combined three games in their four sets played. Combined, the tandem is 25-3 in singles competition this season.

Donni Kinghorn won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles and Aubrey Ocheltree prevailed 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 for the Storm. Megan Grubb went to a third set to win at No. 3. Grubb dropped her opener before bouncing back with 7-5, 10-7 sets to claim the point.

Kennedi Wright went a full three sets at No. 4 singles, but just lost the third frame, 11-9, to fall.

Wanek and King won 8-4 against the reigning American Rivers Conference Individual Championships doubles winners, Karleigh Schilling and Alyssa Lewton, to grab Simpson's lone point in doubles play.
