Strecker, Wanek earn A-R-C weekly awards

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- The American Rivers Conference tabbed women's soccer senior Madi Strecker and women's tennis junior Anna Wanek as the Athletes of the Week in their respective sports on Monday for the period ending Sunday, April 18.

This is the first career weekly honor for Strecker and the fourth for Wanek this season. Strecker helped the Storm tally two shutouts against Coe and Luther. Wanek and company defeated Central and Grand View to reach the 10-win plateau for the first time since the 2012-13 campaign for women's tennis.

Women's soccer is back on the pitch to end its season Sunday, April 24 against Loras at home. On the courts, Simpson visits Iowa Central Community College for a match this Sunday as well.

Madi Strecker | Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week
• Senior from Parker, Colo.
• Played on a defense that allowed five shots on-goal during its two shutouts
• Assisted on two goals in the 3-0 win against Coe
• Held Luther scoreless for the first time all season in a 2-0 triumph
• Stayed on the pitch for all 180 minutes of action
• The Storm have now held four teams scoreless this spring and have conceded just three goals to tie for second in the league
• First career weekly award from the conference

Anna Wanek | Women's Tennis Player of the Week
• 
Junior from Urbandale, Iowa
• Remained undefeated at No. 1 singles with victories against Central's Laurynn Mize (6-0, 6-1) and Grand View's Kanishka Gowthaman (6-2, 7-6)
• Won both matches in straight sets to hold an 18-0 record this season, which now stands as most wins in singles play in program history
• Teamed with Emily King to win both contests at No. 1 doubles to hold a 12-3 mark as a duo this year
• Defeated the reigning A-R-C Individual Championship doubles winners, Karleigh Schilling and Alyssa Lewton of Central, 8-4
• Fourth conference weekly honor this season
