Simpson hosts Dubuque for season opener

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- With the original season opener being postponed, the Simpson women's tennis team will start its campaign this Saturday against Dubuque inside the Buxton Tennis Complex. The match is slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.

Following a shortened spring season and 3-6 mark last fall, Simpson returns five student-athletes from a year ago, led by all-conference performers Megan Grubb and Emily King. King tallied the league honor at No. 1 singles a year after earning honorable mention honors as a freshman, while Grubb was tabbed honorable mention in 2019.

Lorin Miller looks to cap off her career for the Storm as the team's lone senior. Sophomores Donni Kinghorn and Kennedi Wright return after earning time on the court as freshmen. Kinghorn held down the No. 4 singles slot, while Wright handled the duties at No. 3 singles.

Third-year head coach Faith Bliss welcomes two additions to Simpson, junior Anna Wanek and freshman Aubrey Ocheltree. Wanek transfers from Minnesota State-Mankato, where she appeared in 22 contests for the women's basketball team. Ocheltree arrives from New Virginia, Iowa.

After the delayed season opener, the Storm will compete in five matches over the course of five days to close out September, with all but one being an American Rivers Conference bout. They face off against Wartburg on Friday, Sept. 25 for the first road trip of the year, before returning home for a doubleheader on Saturday against Central and Grand View.
