Storm secure league victory at Buena Vista
STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis team stretched their current win streak to seven against Buena Vista on Tuesday after claiming a 7-2 victory.
The Storm (3-1, 3-1 A-R-C) are off to their best start to a season since holding a 3-1 mark to begin the 2016-17 fall slate. Of those three victories during that span, only one came against a conference opponent, while all three this year have been matched up against league foes.
The duo of Anna Wanek and Emily King moved to 3-1 as a pair at No. 1 doubles by winning the first match to give Simpson the early advantage. The Beavers (0-3, 0-3 A-R-C) knotted the score at 1-1 with a victory at No. 3 doubles, but the tandem of Megan Grubb and Kennedi Wright put the Storm back on top after an 8-6 battle.
Buena Vista won the first match in singles to tie it once again, but that was the closest the Beavers would get as Simpson reeled off five straight matches.
Wanek proved why she is the reigning American Rivers Conference Female Athlete of the Week after she moved to 4-0 at No. 1 singles with convincing 6-1, 6-1 wins. Grubb, King and Wright notched their third victories this year as individuals, with Grubb having to do a little more work by reaching a third set.

A tough contest awaits the Storm this Saturday when Luther plays the host for a league bout in Decorah, Iowa. The Norse are currently 3-0 overall and against conference foes to sit behind Wartburg, which has four league wins and six overall.
