Simpson defeats Nebraska Wesleyan in A-R-C showdown

LINCOLN, Neb. -- The Simpson women's tennis team won its fourth American Rivers Conference match in an 8-1 contest at Nebraska Wesleyan on Wednesday.

The Storm's (6-3, 4-2 A-R-C) four wins in conference play tie the program's most since the 2012-13 season. This is the second time since the 2014-15 campaign Simpson has produced at least six overall victories.

The No. 1 pair of Anna Wanek and Emily King and No. 3 doubles team of Megan Grubb and Lorin Miller both notched 8-3 victories to give the Storm an early 2-1 lead over the Prairie Wolves (0-4, 0-4 A-R-C). The tandem of Donni Kinghorn and Kennedi Wright came short of winning their second match as a pair in an 8-5 defeat. 

During singles play, the Storm won all six matches and only reached the third set once. Kinghorn earned her seventh win this season for second most on the team and did so by sweeping both sets. King tallied her sixth and Grubb notched her fifth, while Wanek is still unbeaten with nine triumphs to lead the league. Aubrey Ocheltree secured her second career victory at No. 6 singles.

Loras (2-1, 2-1 A-R-C) visits on Friday for a 4 p.m. contest before Simpson hosts Coe (4-2, 3-2 A-R-C) on Saturday for a 2 p.m. showdown to close out conference play before the A-R-C Individual Tournament next week.
