Storm shutout Grand View in nonconference clash

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- The Simpson women's tennis squad remained unbeaten at home on Tuesday with a 9-0 sweep over Grand View inside the Buxton Tennis Complex.

The Storm (5-3) secured their second shutout this fall, with both matches taking place at home. This is the first time Simpson has held two teams scoreless in the same season since the 2011-12 campaign produced three shutouts.

During doubles action, Simpson jumped out to a quick 3-0 tilt after allowing the Vikings (0-3) to win just one game between two sets and a forfeit. Donni Kinghorn and Kennedi Wright won their first match as a pair this season.

The momentum carried into singles play as the visitors won just one game between four matches. Emily King, Wright and Kinghorn held their opponents scoreless, while Megan Grubb surrendered one game during the No. 3 singles match to win 6-1, 6-0.

The reigning American Rivers Conference Co-Female Athlete of the Week, Anna Wanek, had to battle to collect her eighth victory this season at No. 1 singles. Wanek dropped the opening set, 6-4, but came back to win the second, 7-6 (7-4). The third set reached a 10-5 tiebreaker to clinch the win for Wanek and a shutout for the squad.
