Slow start hurts Storm in loss to Dubuque

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's soccer team looked for its fourth American Rivers Conference win of the season on Saturday but Dubuque ended those thoughts by handing the Storm a 1-0 loss.

It was a tight-knit match through the first half and several minutes into the second frame before the Spartans (10-4-2, 3-2-2 A-R-C) tallied the game-winner in the 53rd.

Simpson (9-3-5, 3-2-2) had a slow start the league contest by only attempting one shot in the opening half before ripping off six tries in the second half, but could not find the back of the net in either of those seven shots.

Rachel Neumann saved six shots to maintain the league lead with an .883 save percentage. The sophomore is also first in goals against average at .629.

Megan Roberts had three shots and one on goal, while Baileigh Nagy and Cami Schmalz each had a shot on target.

Notes
• This is the third time all season Simpson has not attempted a corner kick during a match.
• The Storm have now lost 13 straight matches to Dubuque while the Spartans hold a 14-9-1 record in the series.
