Cozzoni earns A-R-C Defensive Player of the Week honors

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Freshman Abby Cozzoni has been selected as the American Rivers Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the Simpson women's soccer team, the league announced Monday.

From her defender position, Cozzoni was the only Storm player to play all 180 minutes during the week for Simpson as they went 2-0 with two shutouts. Simpson won 2-0 against NAIA Grand View and followed that up with a 3-0 win at home over Concordia-Chicago.

The Storm have showcased their strong defense in every match this year and have produced five blank sheets to start 4-0-1, to tie the team's best start since 2011.

Simpson travels to Grinnell on Wednesday for a 4:30 p.m. contest.

Cozzoni becomes the fourth person to receive an A-R-C Player of the Week award this week for the Storm as she joins Sam Bartlett (football), Brendan Holmes (football) and Jake Potratz (men's soccer). The Storm now have five student-athletes that have been selected as A-R-C Players of the Week this fall.
