Simpson suffers first A-R-C defeat of year to Loras

DUBUQUE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's soccer team looked to upset the top team in the American Rivers Conference on Saturday, but lost in a close 1-0 battle at Loras.

The Storm (8-2-5, 2-1-2, A-R-C) suffered their first conference loss of the season and just their second overall, while the Duhawks (11-4-0, 4-1 A-R-C) sit atop the league standings.

Rachel Neumann held firm in goal all evening to tie a season-high nine saves to prevent Loras from reaching it's league-leading average of 2.8 goals per match. Loras scored in the 39th minute to break the scoreless tie and held on to claim the win.

Simpson had opportunities to score in the first 45 minutes of play with three shots on goal. Emma Fleddermann fired one in the opening two minutes for it to be saved the Duhawks' keeper. Baileigh Nagy had one saved in the 12th minute to keep it scoreless and Dani Marquez came up short in the 37th as well for the Storm.

Notes
• Neumann is still first in the league with a 88.1 save percentage and has only conceded eight goals, which is tied for third.
• The scoreless output snaps a seven match skid with a goal for the Storm offense.
• Loras owns a 18-7-2 mark against Simpson in the series that dates back to 1996 and have won 10 straight in the series.
