Simpson blanks Buena Vista in league victory

STORM LAKE, Iowa -- The Simpson women's soccer team has now won five straight matches against Buena Vista after extending its streak with a 4-0 shutout victory over the Beavers Tuesday night on the road.

Over the last five contests between the two programs, the Storm (8-1-5, 2-0-2 A-R-C) have only allowed one goal and are now 21-1-1 all time against Buena Vista (2-11, 0-4 A-R-C) in the series that dates back to 1997.

The majority of the match was spent on Simpson's attacking half as the team attempted 27 shots and only allowed the Beavers to take one, which came in the 51st minute.

Cami Schmalz connected on her fifth game-winning goal of the season in the 15th minute to help the team remain unbeaten in American Rivers Conference play. Cassidy Price earned the assist on the play, her second of the year.

Madi Strecker tallied her first goal of the season in the 26th minute to make it 2-0 off a pass from Dani Marquez. Megan Roberts added to the scoring column to make it 3-0 with her fourth goal in three games and sixth overall on an assist from Baileigh Nagy. Schmalz produced her team-leading eighth goal in the 68th minute to give Simpson its largest margin of victory since Oct. 2, 2017, which came in an 8-0 win over Iowa Wesleyan. Jessica Payne tallied her first helper of the season on the goal.

Roberts ramped up her attacks during the game with eight shots as five of those were on frame in 22 minutes of work. Kaitlyn Bravek contributed to the offense with four attempts.

Rachel Neumann and Aspen Brockhouse combined for the shutout as Neumann tallied the lone save.

• Schmalz is now first in the conference in game-winning goals and fourth in goals scored.
• The 27 shot attempts are the most the Storm have had since Oct. 2, 2017 when they had 48 against Iowa Wesleyan.
• The Storm are last unbeaten team in A-R-C play with four conference contests left on the slate.
• Simpson has nine shutouts for the year and have held the Beavers scoreless in seven of the last 10 matchups between the two teams.
