Storm's shutout streak ends in draw at Grinnell

GRINNELL, Iowa -- For the first time all season, the Simpson women's soccer team allowed an opponent to score, but kept its unbeaten record intact. The Storm tied 1-1 at Grinnell on Wednesday, ending their shutout streak at five matches.

The weather played a key role in the evening for both teams by forcing an 80-minute rain delay to push the start time back and then ending the match at the end of regulation due to darkness.

The Pioneers (2-3-1) opened the scoring in the 51st minute, scoring the first goal against Simpson (4-0-2) since Oct. 23, 2018.

Megan Roberts tallied her second goal in a Storm uniform in the 59th minute to even the contest. Roberts was on the attack all evening and fired off seven shots, with four on goal.

The Storm attempted 13 shots, while eight were on frame. The defense allowed Grinnell to take eight shots and only had three on target.

In goal, Rachel Neumann produced two saves to move to 3-0-2 for the year.

Notes
• Both teams have played one another regularly since 2012 and his is the first time the Storm have scored in the series since 2015.
• Through the team's first six games, they have scored eight goals for a two-game improvement from last season.

Comments from Coach Reinert
"We learned a lot about ourselves tonight. We were the more dangerous team all night. The goal they scored was a fantastic finish. I thought we responded positively without pushing too aggressively. We had been able to provide consistent pressure and our moment was coming.

Unfortunately we just didn't find the game winner. Their goalkeeper was strong tonight and had big saves down the stretch that led to a fair result in tonight's draw."
