Storm earn shutout win over Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa -- Kaitlyn Bravek scored her first goal of the year to give Simpson women's soccer a 1-0 victory at Grand View to increase the shutout streak to four straight games to begin the year.

Bravek tallied her game-winning goal in the 30th minute off a penalty kick to help the Storm (3-0-1) to their best start since 2011, when the team began 4-0-1. The junior now has four career netters, with this being her first game-winner.

Grand View (1-3-1) had the upper edge all game in shots by taking 14, compared to the Storm's seven. The hosts even had 12 shots on goal, while Simpson placed five between the posts. Sophomore Baileigh Nagy was all over the attack for Simpson and took five shots with three on target.

In her first start of the season, sophomore Aspen Brockhouse had nine saves to keep the opponents off the board. Brockhouse now has three career shutouts.

Brockhouse stayed tough in the net when it mattered most and had two saves in the final five minutes of the first half and three saves in the last 20 minutes of action.

• The Storm have improved on offense early in the year and it shows. Through the first four games, the team has scored four goals, it took the team nine games to grab that feat in 2018.
• Simpson has already surpassed the shutout point from a year ago. In 2018, the Storm only had two blanksheets, they currently have four.
• Bravek is the fourth person to score a goal this year for Simpson, seven tallied a goal last season.

"It took another entire team effort to get the result today and it's one we are proud of. Our goal was to establish ourselves as a first half team and I think we managed to do so. They were able to steal some momentum late in the first which made for a really even and intense second half.

Our defense continues to improve and we were able to cycle through several options today. Across the whole field, our depth was a huge advantage, contributions were coming from anywhere and everywhere, that was fun to see.

There is a lot of season ahead and we are very excited by the growth we saw tonight."
