Women's soccer remain unbeaten after home win

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- It was nearly déjà vu in the Simpson women's soccer game Wednesday night as Cami Schmalz scored in the early minutes of a 4-2 win over Waldorf, repeating her actions from Sunday.

Schmalz waited until the fifth minute to score, instead of the first minute like she did a few days prior. Megan Roberts set the play up with a shot, but the Warrior (1-7-1) keeper deflected the ball, allowing Schmalz to kick the rebound into the net to put the Storm (6-0-3) up 1-0.

For the team's second goal of the nonconference clash, Tatum Tremain had a one-touch pass to Dani Marquez, who tracked it down to push the ball into the net.

In the second half, Kaitlyn Bravek sent a cross near the goal, allowing Lizzie Arnburg to head the ball into the net to go up 3-0. Bravek remained in the scoring mix for the team's fourth goal of the game, this time coming off a penalty kick. Bravek stretched the game to 4-0 with her second goal of the year.

Waldorf got on the board in the 70th minute off a free kick. A few moments later, the Warriors cut the deficit once more to make it 4-2 after a miscue in the Simpson defense.

The Storm were able to hold on and win to remain unbeaten for the year by having the shot advantage at 16-11. Rachel Neumann picked up her fifth win in goal for Simpson by stopping three shots.

• Simpson has now outscored Waldorf 13-4 in the four meetings between the teams and holds a 3-1 tilt in the series.
• The two goals the team gave up are the most they allowed since the season-ending loss last year to Coe, 3-0, on Oct. 23.
• Schmalz now has five goals for the season to pace the team, while Arnburg and Marquez earned their first of the year.
