Simpson snaps winning streak to Luther

INDIANOLA, Iowa -- For the first time since Dec. 7, the Simpson women's basketball team was on the losing end of a contest, this time in a 73-63 defeat at home to Luther to snap an 11-game winning streak.

The Storm (7-3 A-R-C) scored their fewest points tonight since dropping 61 at Coe on Dec. 4. From the field, the offense connected on 36.1% of its attempts and went 8-for-23 from behind the arc.

Both teams were looking to get a lead in the first quarter as the Norse were able to do so at 22-19 after 10 minutes of play. Simpson issued an 8-3 spurt to begin the second to capture its largest lead of the game at 27-25. The offense failed to extend on the advantage and Luther closed the half on a 13-1 spree to maintain a 10-point tilt at 38-28.

The Norse added to their lead to set the game at 49-35 in the third for their largest advantage of the game. The Storm looked poised for a comeback and brought the game to within six, but Luther notched a triple in the final seconds of the third to stop the momentum.

In the fourth, a 3-pointer from Cassie Chubb put Simpson within five points before the Norse reeled off five-straight points for another double-digit lead. Kia Rasmussen tallied her third 3-pointer of the game to set the contest at 66-61 with less than a minute to play, but the Storm wouldn't climb any closer. Luther stayed strong at the free throw line to extend its lead to hang on to win.

Rasmussen ended with 15 points to lead the team, Cameron Kincaid tallied 13 and Cassie Nash added 10.
