Simpson closes out weekend with loss to Wis.-La Crosse

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. -- A slow start in the first quarter left a lasting impact as the Simpson women's basketball team lost 84-68 to Wisconsin-La Crosse on Saturday in the Tip-Off Tournament finale.

The Storm (1-1) were down early as the Eagles (3-1) jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back. Wis.-La Crosse was tabbed No. 19 in the D3Hoops.com Top-25 Preseason Poll and it showed as the Eagles had the advantage all contest.

After going down by 14 in the second quarter, Simpson went on an 8-0 run to trim the deficit down to six at 28-22. Wis.-La Crosse would end the run with a 6-0 spurt of its own to widen the gap once again.

With the game sitting at 42-31 at the start of the second half, Cameron Kincaid hit a 3-pointer to set the game within eight points, but the Storm would never get any closer the rest of the contest.

Kia Rasmussen and Kincaid both finished with 16 points to lead the team as Kincaid had a team-high five rebounds. Claire Johnson scored 10 and dished out five assists, while Hattie Rhodes poured in 11 points off the bench for Simpson.

As a unit, the Storm shot 31.8% from the 3-point line and 43.6% from the floor. The Eagles hit 50% of their shots from long range and 56% overall.
